Behind The Music :

What started out as a wedding reception gig back in 96, turned into something more. Steve and Kim married in July of 96. A few of us got together, jammed about 5 songs we learned in amount of two weeks before. We did pretty well, so well we played those same 5 songs again but in reverse orderlol. The crowd didnt care they were wasted. We kept it together playing when we could, at that time the name was INTERSTATE MADNESS. In 1999, Mark Sedlock a bass player, and Vito Bolognone a drummer joined the band a few years before that. Mark has been in several bands including his very first band Master Control with Chris Peris. Mark left INTERSTATE in 2000. Kim was a guitar player at first, but after Mark left and bass players were hard to come by, Kim took up playing the bass. The band was functional once again. In the fall of September while playing a gig, we met our future guitar player. Corey Call was young and ambitious. He brought a lot of fun and style to the band. We continued to play some gigs. Vito left the band shortly after the new year. Winter 2001, we heard of this drummer who was supposed to be good. We set up an audition, played some Creed and various other artists songs. I think it was after Higher from Creed we looked at him and said, You want in? He took it. Ryan McMurray was now the fifth and final member needed. That year was great. Our first show we opened up for Highway Man at the Downtown Quarterback in Endicott, NY. We kicked ass and the place was packed! With in a week, the bar called us back for our own gig. This gig was going to be broadcast over the Radio Station CD100. That was cool, worked with Jeff King and Steve Schimes from there. Again, the place was packed. By the summer, things seemed to be dying. With troubles in personal lives and members wanting do more, we were falling apart. Corey had begun writing his own material and was working with a few guys. He ended up leaving Interstate. Although he came back to do Rock For America in November 01, which was to raise money for September 11, 2001 children. The band as a foursome played the CD release party in December of 2001 with Frostbit Blue. That was really the turning point for the band. Ryan had had enough and opted to quit right after the show. Going through his own problems with playing and all, Chris Peris left the band in February 02. INTERSTATE led at the time by Steve and Kim continued with a different guitar player and drummer. It was later in 03 when Chris began forming another band with long time friends and past band mates Mark and Tom Sedlock. He ended up joining their band 420 Ashbury (Grateful Dead). Chris and Steve talked about playing together again in April of 04. This time there was a twist. His 9-year-old son Kolby was going to be the drummer. This was bound to be cool. Kolby had watched us play from the time he was 1 or 2. He never took a lesson on the drums. Kolby could play Creed, Fuel, 3 Doors Down, Nickelback, you name it. With in that month, the gigs started to come. We played quite a bit. In the fall we played with Brett Driscoll at a 50th B-day party for one our friends. It was the start of something. We had the big production for thatlol. Somebody in the band likes to make everything big.lol. Thanks to Brett, Mark Sedlock, The Dearstynes and all those who helped. So far in 05, INTERSTATE has still been playing. In June of 05, we asked Brett Driscoll to join us. Brett brings his experience to the table as a lead/rhythm guitar player. Brett comes from Jamesons Curse, which played a lot in the Geneva, NY area. The third show was a sign of things really coming together and the sound being what it is. Brett has stepped in and filled the bands sound out extremely well. Brett is a great addition to INTERSTATE. Dalton man, Steve and Kim's second son has been getting his musical wings wet as well in 05. Dalton is a young (7 years old) inspiring musician who has played a few shows with us. Supporting role on congas to songs such as Two Tickets to Paradise and Justice and Independence. Although, his ultimate goal I believe he said was to be a singer. These kids have a long time of music ahead of them and who knows, we may see them out in the big time one day. We hope to keep rocking for a while here. We will add more shows and see about hitting upstate New York as well. Its been great to have all the support we have had from family and friends over the years. We want to say thanks to all of you for what you have done for us and for always being there. Rock and Roll
